Cameron Schroeck- Master Scuba Diver Trainer
Being a former surfer and ocean swimmer, I have always been in love with the ocean. I knew I was going to fall head over heals for diving far before I ever stepped foot into a dive shop. Sure enough, I was welcomed by the fantastic staff at PCH and signed up for my first class and never looked back. My very first dive in the ocean was even more incredible than my best ride on a surf board, so much so that the experience left me craving for more and even leaving behind surfing altogether. I quickly signed up for the next class, and many more to follow. I am here to tell you the addiction to diving is quite real.
I quickly found myself wanting to spread my enjoyment of the silent world to others. As I continue to learn how to teach, I receive the endless honor of sharing a marine world we somehow know less about than outer space, right here in our backyard. Paired with that privilege is the ability to keep our communities and new divers informed about the utmost importance our oceanic ecosystems have on our planet, and how we all play a role in helping to preserve our oceans and marine life. To say the ocean is an awesome place would be the understatement of the century, now enough talking about it and let’s go see it!
Johnny Villegas- Master Scuba Diver Trainer
Thanks to my parents, I grew up loving anything to do with the water, from water skiing, surfing, swimming, boating and so on. I was introduced into scuba inadvertently by my parents via documentaries they watched on TV by Jacques Cousteau and his adventures. Ever since then I knew I wanted to have my own adventures under the sea and try to capture it on film as well. That dream came to fruition when I got my open water in 2005. Every chance I had, I would go diving somewhere in SoCal taking pics, from the beautiful Channel Islands, enjoying the underwater kelp forest and playing with sea lions to Wreck Alley in San Diego.
After a brief hiatus, due to going back to school, a trip to Cancun offered me some diving in the warm waters and the Cenote’s. Once underwater, I was reminded of the joy and peacefulness I felt, and how much I missed spending time underwater. How much I missed trying to capture the beauty on film to share with family and friends. Since then, I found PCH Scuba, and have worked my way up the ranks to be an Instructor. Let’s go diving!
Maurice Aboulache- Master Scuba Diver Trainer
I’ve always enjoyed being in and around the ocean. It’s a place where I go to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Now I’m able to interact with it in a much more up close and personal way. I have also found a great community of like-minded people. I love teaching people and welcoming them into the fold. I also look forward to advancing my professional career as a diver. That’s where we are today!
Now let me tell you how it bagan. Many years ago I wanted to get certified and even went as far as to buy some basic equipment. I always made excuses of being too busy or not having somebody to go with. Then I got lucky when a friend of mine stumbled across PCH and signed up for a class. I decided to join him and the rest is history. Let me just say you should follow through when you initially feel that desire to dive, but it’s never too late to start.
JC Gutierrez- Open Water Scuba Instructor
As a native Southern Californian, the beaches and ocean have always been a part of life. My one regret is that it took me so long to get underwater! Once I took my first Open Water class a few years back, I was addicted. The ocean life, colors, and topography are unlimited and I’m humbled to have the opportunity to continue to explore it.
Once I started diving, I knew being an instructor was in my future. I immediately enjoyed what Southern California diving had to offer and couldn’t wait to share that with new divers. Kelp forests, wrecks, reefs, beautiful bright fish, sea lions, bat rays and SHARKS...they’re all in our own backyard! Now, don’t get me wrong, warm water diving is pretty great. I’ve had the opportunity to dive in many diverse environments, but our local ecosystem is so diverse that it’s impossible to get tired of. Now, let’s head underwater and have some fun!
Steve Littlefield- Open Water Scuba Instructor
Steve is into all types of adrenaline sports, was trained as a Firefighter/EMT, used to sing in a rock band, and recently took the stage as a budding comedian known by his nickname SteveNar!
SteveNar received his original Open Water certification back in 2011 on a boat in the islands of Fiji! He has been to 38 countries and counting and he used to dive ONLY on vacation in warm waters like Hawaii, various parts of Mexico, Thailand, & the Maldives.
The first time he ever donned a 7mm wetsuit was in Catalina when he completed his Advanced Open Water. During that weekend he assisted in a Rescue Diver class and that’s when the world changed. Fast forward and he is now an instructor with PCH Scuba! During training he became fast friends with his fellow diving studs Brandin & Krystle and now their new collective passion is helping people learn to scuba.
